My son has had a high fever for 5 days,105 degrees,48 hour blood culture was positive?

for bactaria but it showed up late,tonight he is clammy and temp dropped to 97 degrees,my husband is rushing him to the hospital because his face swelled up and he turned white and is sweating like crazy.he was also complaining about his ear ...hearing something that won't go away..his eyes are puffy and we can barely understand his mumbling.this is the 3rd time in 3 days we are taking him to the doctor.he is extremely irritable and actually is really loud and demanding.this is not like him. i have four other children and have never seen this with any of them.they have all had high fevers in the past but not for more then 3 days...my gut tells me this is way different...what is going on? i am worried and my husband is driving 40 miles in a snowstorm to the ER please someone help me to know my son will be ok?? the doctor that took the blood culture said not to worry about the bactaria showing up because it took a long time...that if the infection was bactarial,it would have showed up right away.
